Let’s delve into the history of Maker Faires, tracing their evolution from humble beginnings to the diverse and impactful events they are today.

The Birth of the Maker Movement
The Maker Movement can be seen as a response to the digital age, where individuals sought to reclaim the power of creation and hands-on skills. The first Maker Faire emerged in 2006 in the Bay Area, California. Inspired by the DIY spirit, Make Magazine founder Dale Dougherty and his team organized a gathering that brought together inventors, crafters, tech enthusiasts, and artists to showcase their creations.

The Early Years: Community and Exploration
The inaugural Maker Faire in 2006 drew a modest crowd, but its impact was significant. The event celebrated the merging of art, science, and technology, and attendees were exposed to a wide range of projects, from 3D printing to robotics. The spirit of community collaboration was palpable, igniting a spark that would fuel the movement’s growth.

Global Expansion: Spreading Creativity Worldwide
As the Maker Faire concept gained momentum, the movement expanded across the United States and around the world. Maker Faires started popping up in various cities, allowing local makers to showcase their talents and creations. The concept resonated with people who were eager to share their innovative ideas and learn from others.

Innovation and Diversity: Showcasing Endless Possibilities
Maker Faires quickly evolved to embrace diverse disciplines, including electronics, crafting, woodworking, and more. Makers of all ages and backgrounds converged to share their skills and collaborate on projects. The fairs became platforms for hands-on learning, skill-building, and inspiring creativity in the next generation.

Educational Impact: Fostering STEAM Education
Maker Faires also made a significant impact on education. By promoting a blend of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM), they provided interactive and engaging ways for students to learn beyond traditional classroom settings. Makerspaces in schools and libraries emerged, fostering innovation and experimentation.

Virtual Adaptation: Navigating Challenges
The COVID-19 pandemic posed a challenge for large in-person gatherings, including Maker Faires. However, the maker community’s adaptability shone through as many events pivoted to virtual formats. Online Maker Faires allowed makers to connect, share projects, and inspire each other from the safety of their homes.

Continued Inspiration: The Future of Maker Faires
The Maker Faire movement continues to inspire creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Whether in-person or online, these events provide platforms for makers to showcase their projects, learn from one another, and spark curiosity in attendees of all ages. Maker Faires empower individuals to explore their passions and contribute to a more inventive world.

The history of Maker Faires showcases a journey from a small gathering to a global movement that celebrates the power of creativity, learning, and making. As the movement continues to evolve, its impact on innovation and education remains a testament to the enduring spirit of human ingenuity.

If you’re interested in Maker Faires in the UK, I recommend checking official Maker Faire websites and local event listings for the latest information on upcoming events and their histories.

Where to try some poker in England https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/where-to-try-some-poker-in-england/ Thu, 27 Jan 2022 13:05:24 +0000 https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/?p=33 England is a great place to place poker. There are so many poker rooms that making a choice is actually the most difficult part. Below we list our three personal favorites, but there are certainly other good options. Dusk Till Dawn Poker and Casino is located in Nottingham, England. It regularly gets rave reviews from visiting punters. Situated in the Midlands, it’s not only the biggest but in fact the only British venue solely dedicated to the game of poker. There are 45 custom designed poker tables that offer seating to as many as 450 players at any given moment. A variety of games are on offer, including Omaha, Hold’em and Dealers’ Choice. Games kick off with low buy-ins, so anyone can take part in the fun irrespective of their budget. Next on our list is Grosvenor Vic in London. The Grosvenor Casino room, which is affectionately called ‘The Vic’ by patrons, is the perfect spot to find lots of high-rolling poker action and many a British poker star have learned the basics of the game at the same tables you will be playing when you visit. This place draws a mixed crowd of poker players, some who just pop in to meet other players and others who are professionals. The poker room can accommodate as many as 250 people. Games are on offer throughout the day and it’s very unlikely that you won’t get a seat where you can settle down and take a shot at the big money. Our third choice is the Hippodrome Casino on the corner of Leicester Square and Charing Cross Road in London. This places has a rich tradition of entertaining both locals and visitors over many years. It started life as a circus in 1900, and in 2009 it became a casino with a cabaret theme. The poker room, known as PokerStars LIVE, is situated in “the gods” of the former theatre seating, giving players an unique view of the casino floor below. With a restaurant, five bars, live cabaret and music, three gaming floors, and a shisha terrace this is the perfect choice for people who want an entertainment-filled night out beyond just playing poker. Before you depart on your poker trip it will of course make sense to brush up on the finer aspects of the game.

Poker Nights in London https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/poker-nights-in-london/ Thu, 27 Jan 2022 13:04:30 +0000 https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/?p=30 Poker is one of the oldest card games known to punters. In London, this beloved game has become quite rampant with gamers joining both online and land-based casinos to try their luck. Both locals and tourists come together to have fun. Aside from experienced gamblers, newbies also tend to try their hand at this game, especially the basic poker. This game is easy to learn and does not have hard rules to play by. You can learn how to play poker by watching established gamblers play the game, or by getting a private tutor to guide you through the gaming process. Also, online platforms are other areas that you can visit to learn how to play poker. Gamers can visit any poker review site or online casino and learn how to play some of the card games including five cards stud. Poker rules differ from one variation to the other, but the basic rules cut across all poker types.

Poker Dens

Considering that gambling is legal in London, you can take advantage of this and visit some of the most prominent casinos in the region. A few of these include Empire casino, Grosvenor Casino, Victoria Casino, and Asper Casino among others. You get access to top-notch poker rooms with dedicated dealers who will take you through the gaming process professionally. Aside from the basic poker games, you can also try out other variations that require more skill and wit to play. Some of these are the likes of Texas Hold’em Poker, Jacks or Better, Seven-Stud Card, and Omaha among others. Considering that these games have different strategies and gameplay options, you have to make yourself acquainted with the rules of the specific game you decide to play. The easiest way to do this is to find an online casino that offers free virtual-poker games and play them alongside learning the rules. This will help you learn how to play poker easily from the comfort of your home.

Restrictions

Punters, however, should note that gambling is not for everyone. Individuals who are below 18 years are not allowed to wager in any casino, according to the UK gambling laws. Failure to comply with this rule may lead to fatal results.

What to Do When in The UK: The Thrill of The Casino https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/what-to-do-when-in-the-uk-the-thrill-of-the-casino/ Thu, 27 Jan 2022 13:03:27 +0000 https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/?p=27 If you are visiting the UK, there is plenty of activities and delights to steal your attention. One of the best experiences you can ask for is that offered by the British gambling houses. Even without the glitz and glam offered by the Casinos in Las Vegas, there is plenty of action in these betting houses that hold a history going all the way back to the age of Shakespeare. With more than 100 land-based casino’s, the gambling scene in the UK is the most diverse in the whole of Europe. The experience you get from visiting an on-land casino is entirely different than that of an online casino. If you want to have fun and mingle with new people, this is the place for you. The cheers and jeers all around the room provide you with a realistic experience that lacks on the online betting platforms. Likewise, the flashy lights and beautiful waitresses going around with drinks create a colourful atmosphere. Even so, there are plenty of online casinos in the UK that you can as well play without your physical presence. Unlike the on-land casinos, online casinos provide you with additional ways to make more winnings. Not only that you as well get a free starting deposit as a new player. Moreover, you reduce your overall expenses since you do not have to be physically present in a betting house. Either way, if you love gambling, you sure will not be disappointed. There are plenty of game options you can choose to play. These games include table games such as blackjack, craps and roulette to slot games and video games. Even with all these games at your disposal, it is important to play only the games you are comfortable with and know the rules. Additionally, to enjoy your time while betting, you should think of managing your betting bankroll by diving it into several parts and not using more than one part in one casino. Remember, you do not want to end up broke in a casino during your first visit to the UK.

Playing Poker in England https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/playing-poker-in-england/ Thu, 27 Jan 2022 13:02:26 +0000 https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/?p=24 Gambling is completely legal and untaxed in England, and the UK as a whole, making it the perfect destination for poker players. As a result, both land-based and online casinos are thriving throughout the nation, with plenty of poker sites on hand to suit every budget and experience level. Check out the following tips to help you get started:

Game Basics

With its rich history, poker has evolved over the centuries, and continues to develop to this day. There are numerous varieties of the game available, from Omaha to Seven Card Stud, although Texas Hold’em remains the most popular variant across the world. The action takes places on a single table between multiple players, usually 2 – 10, and involves a rotating blind system. Every player receives 2 (hole) cards face down before calling, raising or folding. This continues after each round, until all 5 community cards are dealt. Any remaining players can use these cards in combination with their own to create their highest poker hand.

Strategy Tips

As with any game, poker does involve luck, although unlike Roulette or other table classics, using strategies in poker can certainly make a difference. The general rule of thumb for beginners is to play stringently and avoid taking chances. For example, only continue to bet if you are dealt one of the 10 best starting hands, such as Pocket Aces (2 aces) or Pocket Kings (2 kings). There are numerous great resources out there, that can really help develop your game to the next level.

Where to Play

Perhaps the most famous poker venue in England is Nottingham’s Dusk till Dawn, although punters up and down the country should easily be able to find a nearby casino to get their poker kicks. Many online gambling sites offer the chance to play for free, which allows you to perfect your game before investing a single penny.

When Visitng England https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/when-visitng-england/ Thu, 27 Jan 2022 12:59:59 +0000 https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/?p=18 As a visitor to England, there are many little things that you may find odd as you make your way around. On the other hand though, there are so many quirks that make it a brilliant place to visit at the same time.Perhaps the most noticeable thing is that the English are very reserved. If something has gone wrong, don’t expect histrionics or a massive public show of outrage. They have a saying of keeping a stiff upper lip, which means not wavering or showing that you are being affected by a weird situation. If you see something strange happening, you really do have to keep calm and carry on.Driving can be a strange experience as well, beyond the standard driving on the opposite side of the road. Roundabouts in England can be huge, or they can be absolutely tiny. You can even have two mini roundabouts literally next to each other. Just remember to let the person to your right hand side have the right of way, and you should be able to survive these, but be aware. And linking to the first point, don’t make a big deal if somebody cuts you up. Keep that upper lip stiff! One other thing to be aware of is the intolerance that the country has towards smoking in public. A smoking ban was made part of the law of the land in 2007, which makes it illegal to spark up in an enclosed public place. If you do so, you could end up with a fine of £200 on the spot so don’t risk it!If you need a nicotine fix, you could consider picking up some new snus to use for your time out there. These would be perfectly legal to use, but do pick them up beforehand as they are not widely available in the UK yet. Snus Direct have a wide range of  new snus that can definitely meet your needs.

The London Eye has 32 air-conditioned passenger capsules (32 to represent the 32 boroughs of London) each with a carrying capacity of 25 people. 2. British Museum

The British Museum is one of the world’s most popular attractions with more than six million visitors a year. It is a trove of some of the world’s priceless artefacts including Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies and the Rosetta Stone. Historic Sites in England https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/historic-sites-in-england/ Thu, 27 Jan 2022 12:53:03 +0000 https://kimberleyholidayflats.co.uk/?p=9 An ancient country with a large number of different conquerors makes for a vast array of historical sites. The Romans came and went, so did the Vikings, the Saxons and the French, and all of them left their mark. Our favourite historically significant places to visit:

Stonehenge

The mysterious and iconic Stonehenge is in Wiltshire, and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Considered to be one of the wonders of the world, this site dates back to prehistoric times and remains an area of interest – no one knows what the site was created for, or how the stones were moved into position. One of many Neolithic monuments in England, this is essentially England’s version of the Egyptian Pyramids.

Edinburgh Castle

Overlooking the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle sits atop an extinct volcano. Dating back hundreds of years, this magnificent building was home to many members of Scottish royalty, including Queen Margaret and Mary Queen of Scots. It has been restored in recent years and affords visitors a close look into the way of life from a time long gone by. From the Great Hall through to the Royal Palace St Margaret’s Chapel, this trip will be an eye-opener.

Bath

Located in Southwest England, the Roman Baths are a must-see. Originally the Celts built a shrine at this location, but over the time of their occupation, the Romans slowly built the city and the bathhouse that we know today. Built over a series of hot springs, which sadly visitors can no longer enjoy, impressive Roman architecture encloses the geothermal energy and creates a wonderfully warm and wholesome environment. There are multiple rooms and temples throughout the complex, including a temple for Sulis Minerva, sacred courtyards and even a spring runoff. These places are just a start. England has a lot to enchant its visitors, as you will discover.

Not the sunniest of isles, we will give you all that you need to know about enjoying yourself regardless of the weather and the area you are in.

We will offer you a range of areas in which to visit. England may be small, but it is steeped in history, and with that in mind there are a lot of sites to see. There is architecture galore from the ancient and mystical site of Stonehenge, the stunning elegance of Ely Cathedral or the modern workmanship of the Gherkin. This tiny country has it all.

If history is not your thing, then there is the natural beauty of the countryside. Marvel at the geological workings of Durdle Door arch in the south, or head north to Yorkshire and enjoy the vast expanses and rolling hills. For British wildlife, there are numerous wildlife parks and reserves that can be visited though if you are lucky, a late-night drive will reward you with a badger or a fox calmly sitting roadside.

The English are not particularly known for their cuisine, but a roast dinner and a good fish and chips are a must on any visit. For each area we focus on, we will give you great restaurant choices and detail the local food.

Finally, we will help you with travel. England may be small, but travel can be tricky in places. For the most part, there is a good network of buses and trains with the occasional plane thrown in. We aim to offer comprehensive coverage but if you have any questions get in touch!
